Working predominantly with found objects, animal remains, tar, and gold leaf, Brewer’s early works were an homage to the animals they incorporated. The remains of the animals were often gold leafed then laid to rest in shrine-like boxes, their bodies frozen in time with tar. Simple white hoops, reminiscent of halos, served as a portals to the next life. Decomposition and changing of forms.
The works below were created bewteen 1989 and 1993 in fulfilment of her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the Minneapolis College of Art and Design. Her current body of work is a continuation of this exploration and celebration of rebirth.
